Hipsters are fun, funny, and seemingly everywhere. My favorite phenomenon is when a hipster unwittingly makes fun of another hipster for being one. To add to the merry band of hipsters in your social repertoire, here are some hipster animals! Yes, it’s true. Believe your eyes.

Embossing label makers are my favorite type. The labels are shiny, graphic, bright, and textured. The Dymo Caption Maker may take the prize for the best embossing label maker yet, with three changeable disks for three different fonts: lowercase, uppercase, and script fonts.
Amendment: January 10, 2010…
A friend just gifted the Dymo Caption Maker to me today. I began using it avidly, and it worked wonderfully with one exception, the kerning — the space between the letters — was contracted after using the lowercase “n”. I’m hoping that this was just a bad stroke of luck, and not that this irregularity is an indication of a bad product. A simple exchange may fix this situation.

Welcome back from the holidays, everybody! I hope you all went to many festive parties. Here are a couple of photos from one of mine.
I originally got these glasses for myself, as an homage to my nerdy elementary school days. But I think they look better on my friends’ kids. Kids in glasses are so cute, right?

The bell jar is a magical way of displaying your lilliputian collections, novelties, and plants. The large glass jar gives its contents a charming apothecary feel. Plus, imagine being able to display collections without having to dust their nooks and crannies. Here are just a few I found on our great internet landscape. If you stumble upon any bell jars yourself, please share. (By the way, some of my favorites are on the set of the film, Penelope.)

My boyfriend, Nat, is a excellent photographer. He shoots mostly portrait and event photography. The photos above are a couple of Nat’s behind-the-scene shots from designer Corey Lynn Calter’s Spring 2010 shoot. (Her collections are so lovely!)
Take a little peek at his online porfolio at Nat Sin Photography. You may see some familiar faces.

Some folks say they are visual. Others say they are audio. With this electronic instrument, you can be both at the same time. Called the Tenori-on, this flat square instrument feels like an electronic toy. Check out how two musicians have used it: Little Boots, and The Tenorions.

Unique LA was as bustling as ever. Here are a couple of photos and highlights from the day.
Highlights from the day included: seeing all you friends and fans; meeting fellow designer, Danni, from Oh Hello Friend (her designs were lovely); and being creatively stimulated by some of the great designs out there.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by. It was great seeing you among all the new faces. A special thanks to friends who brought me delicious snacks like Vietnamese spring rolls, chocolates, and sparkling beverages! And a special thanks to my booth partner, Sairam, from Flipclips.
Square Six Finds . . .

The other day, I stumbled upon a quaint independent bike company in Venice, California: Linus Bikes. Their designs are inspired by French bicycle design of the 1950s and 1960s. They make my favorite type of bike, the city bike. City bikes are always comfortable, with just enough performance you need for city riding, and are always stylish, offered in beautiful colors like “sky blue”.
Founders Adam McDermott and Chad Kushner have been buddies since high school and traveled the world together, which is how they fell for classic bike designs of Europe. This unisex design features a diagonal top tube which the French called, “mixte“, a bike for both women and men.
Linus Bikes is located off the main walkway on Abbot Kinney. I almost missed it, but noticed it because I was strolling eating a delicious slice of pizza from Abbot’s Pizza Company.
